Warm Weather Training - Italy 2005

It's that time of the year again. We're looking at our Warm Weather training week away for 2005.

We plan on going back to Hotel Beau Soleil in Cesanatico, a coastal town in Northern Italy.

The proposed dates are April 26th - May 3rd
There is a bank holiday on the 2nd May...

The hotel is beside the beach, and caters specifically for Triathletes. It has a heated, clean, 25m laned pool to which we have all day access. The price covers half board - continental brekie (fruit, cereal, bread etc.) and a four course evening meal with a choice of 3 or 4 dishes.

The week will be a lot like last years. We hope to have some of our coaches out there pushing (encouraging) us. Its a great week to get you up to speed or build a base for the race season here. It suits all levels from complete beginners to the more experienced athlete.

This week started off a few years ago with 2 going, then 6, and last year we had 17 out there (50/50 split beginner/experienced)so this year we hope to have even more going.

Last year some brought bikes out with them but most rented what were good quality road bikes from the hotel.

We'll have to stage the BMX champs again, there have been calls for a rematch.

We won't know exact costs until we know how many are going.

Approx Costs:
Flight and transfer costs are approximately ?160 pp. (Aer Lingus Dub-Bol)
Hotel - 7 nights half board in a double room is ?308 pps. (This includes your breakfast and dinner)
Bike rental for the week is approx ?60 pp. (Aer Lingus charged ?40 to bring your own)
Coach for the week is approximately ?60pp (depending on numbers).
Total Estimated Cost ?588

The club gets nothing out of this. People book and pay for their own flights and settle up with the hotel at the end of the week. We may get a cheaper price depending on flight offers/numbers staying at the hotel.

Partners and kids are all welcome. We had a few supporters last year who spent quiet a bit of time on the sun loungers. The more the merrrier.

I'm only trying to get numbers together at the moment to see who would be interested in going.

Please post up here if you're interested or have any questions, or send me an email to wesley.murphy@helaba.de.

Count me in Wes!

I've been for the last two years and it is a FANTASTIC week.

You do as much or as little training as you want, take a morning off and sit by pool if you're feeling tired or you can do all the sessions. All levels are catered for and a really beneficial part is just listening to people talking about racing, training etc. - you learn loads.

Mary.

It sounds great. Count me in too.

More than likely I will end up doing some longer, slower,
hilly cycles/bricks in preperation for ironman lanzarote on
the 21st may, with loads of resting and heat acclimatisation by the pool.

People will be more than welcome to join me if they want,

Steve.

Wouldn't miss it! The Italy trip is superb- it's a great opportunity to learn so much about training, racing and tri in general, while soaking up the Italian sunshine. Strongly recommend it, especially if you're just getting into tri!

I've got 19 on the list so far, plenty of roon left though.

I'd like to see more beginners coming along. Whether you've only decided to join up and try a race this year or you've already done one or two, this week is perfect for you.
Its a great opportunity to get all the training and racing tips from those who have done a few more races. You'll get 1 to 1 training from the coaches, and best of all you get a holiday in the sun.

I went on my first training week to Italy 2 years ago. I was in the beginners lane in the pool and had never gone on a long cycle before. The week away really got me up to speed, I can't recommend it enough.

Hi Wes,

When do you think the dates will be confirmed?
Just wondering when it's 'safe' to book flights?

Hold off for another week or so Sean, I'll send mails around when it is definite. The flight offers usually change in the month or two coming up to May, its still early days yet.

Which reminds me.
Easyjet fly to Bologna from the UK and Ryanair go to Forli (which is closer) from Stansted, if anyone is looking at other options and not flying from Dublin.

Wes..some people have asked me when the last date for booking the hotel is..I know there is no fixed last date really as we book our own flights but for availability reasons when would you recommend booking before to guarantee a place in the hotel? Whats the availability like this year? And also can we get the same rooms as last year as they were excellent, and the option to have the pool open any earlier (maybe before breakfast) ?? even for a few extra quid ??

Last but not least is somebody going to bring the bmx, crash pads etc...nearly lost my family jewels last year on the twin sisters stage of the course...

There is plenty of availability in the hotel at the moment. (flights are another thing) They cannot tell me when they might fill up though, they will try to give me a warning if they are filling up. At worst if people are thinking of coming last minute, there are other neighbouring hotels which our hotel uses as spillover but these people can still use the pool.

Regards the pool times, it isn't a cost thing, its a time thing. Officially the pool opens at 9 and the staff start cleaning from 7.30, if they open earlier, the staff must come earlier and they would have to close it earlier in the evening which would not suit everyone else.
What they suggested was we wait till we get there, they may leave us in 15 mins or so earlier so we can get in for the end of brekkie, but its a we'll have to wait till we get there.

Yip, we'll have the good rooms overlooking the forest/pool with the balconies.

For the BMX champs I think we'll have to ban racing in flip flops, I think they may have caused an accident or two last year.

Please note the change in dates:
We'll now be going from April the 26th till May 3rd
Aer Lingus did not have availability for all of us for the weekend dates.

The hotel is booked for those going but there is plenty availability left, as there is on the flights.

Going the new dates, unfortunately means using an extra days holidays but it should be about ?100 cheaper, we'll be there for a full weekend (when the town gets a bit lively) and we'll be back for the Dublin Duathlon and the Joey Hannon Triathlon.

Those going, can book their flights from now on.

There is loads of room left so drop me a line anytime if you want to come along.

Heya. I might be interested if there are still places, just need to see if I could take that week from work, and also pricing flights to see how feasible - fligths with aer lingus are approx E320 pp including taxes. A bit steep...

Last I heard, there are still places but it might be better value flying via Stansted.

Hi Orna,

There is still availability in the hotel, you'd be more than welcome to join us. The flights are a problem though. Aer Lingus prices shot up once we all started booking.
Going via Stansted is an option. There are 2 options, you could go via Ryanair which fly into Forli airport (which is nearer to the hotel 30mins) or via Easyjet which flys into Bologna airport. (It flys in and out at different times to the Aer Lingus flights so there may be a bit of waiting around or a train ride involved)

I think these flights are available for about ?180.
If you can get time off work and want to come, drop me a line.

Hi Orna,
Another option: if you don't fancy flying through the UK, Ryanair have also started flying direct from Dublin to Rome and you can get a train from Rome to Cesenatico. Train trip would probably be 3 hours or so (I'm guessing), but it's pretty scenic.
