Eoin Ryan from 3DTri asked us to put up a posting about a fundraiser (race night) which he is organising for Ciaran Cassidy on Saturday 17th of September in the Garda Club on Harrington Street starting at 8.30pm. Many of you know Ciaran from the Irish triathlon scene or from the Piranha warm weather training in Italy this year.

For those of you who have not yet heard, 3DTri's Chairman and star athlete, Ciaran Cassidy is about to embark on an incredible new chapter of his life and triathlon career - he is turning to triathlon full-time in a bid to win his age-category at the 2006 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii...

Ciaran, a former Channel Swimmer, already has his schedule laid out in in front of him from now to the World Championships in 14 months time. This hectic schedule includes a three month stint in New Zealand from December to March in the build up to Ironman New Zealand on March of 2006. Ironman NZ is the race at which he is expecting to gain qualification for Hawaii. In his build up to this race, Ciaran will take part in the famous Epic Camp in Christchurch together with former World Champion, Scott Molina and the legendary Gordo Byrn. During his two weeks at Epic Camp, Ciaran can not only expect to run and swim everyday, but he will also cover a total of 1,500 mountainous kilometres on the bike.

Following Ironman NZ, Ciaran will be returning to work in Dublin for a period before embarking on phase two of his programme, which will ultimately (hopefully) lead him to the podium in Hawaii in October 2006.

The difficulty for Ciaran however, is not the training, but the huge financial demands that this adventure will put on him. It is for this reason that 3D have organised a race night for him on Saturday. (Its also a good excuse for another end of season party!)
