We've decided to offer a continuation of our yoga classes for another 8 weeks because of high interest from regular attendees. However, we do need a minimum number to keep the costs down and make it viable. The instructor (Dave Curtis) has put a short summary explaining why athletes should include yoga as part of their training programme.

Proposed session: 8 weeks

Time and Venue : Elbowroom on Friday nights at 8pm for 90 mins (note no breaks this session)

Costs : 80 euro if 15 people sign up and pay on first night (costs will decrease if more than 15 sign up). If interested text Noel Tonge at 086 3620423 asap...we want to continue classes now!

NOTE : THIS YOGA IS SPECIFICALLY GEARED FOR ATHLETES

Why Athletes should incorporate Yoga into their year round training programme

A prolonged and disciplined yoga practice has now been attributed to extending an athletes career by up to five years and expediating recovery from competitions. Injury prevention – Every physical sport sustains a high level of injury. Yoga helps prevent repetitive stress on over/under developed areas of body (e.g. hamstrings and shoulder/hip and knee joints) Yoga detoxifies the organs and boosts immune system preventing disease, this means overall healthier athletes. Yoga aligns, strengthens and balances the musculoskeletal system, this means more physically balanced athletes with less injuries. Yoga purifies the nervous system creating a clear and precise mind, this means athletes are more focused and concentrated. Some of the pro-athletes doing yoga are:

Marc Allen - Six time Iron Man Champion

Evander Holyfield - Former Heavy weight Champion

Pete Sampras - Grand Slam Champion

Ian Thorpe - Olymic gold medalist
