8pm, Friday 3rd Nov, The Ocean Bar
Click here for directions and a map to the Ocean Bar.

It’s that time of year again when we can all hang up the training gear (or leave it in the box, depending!) and celebrate a great year by having the club AGM and end-of-season bash.

The venue, as last year, is Ocean Bar. The event is open to all Piranha members and partners, all welcome, starting at 8pm sharp (arrive early for a drink!). Our guest speaker, and recently-joined Piranha member, Ciaran Lewis, will give a talk and slide-show on his and Gearoid Towey's amazing story in the Atlantic Challenge. There will be finger food after the AGM, approximately 10pm, laid on by the club, and after the bar closes we will adjourn to a city-centre haunt for a bit of crazy-dancing...

The general format will be:

8.00pm - Talk and slide-show by Ciaran Lewis on the experience of the Atlantic Rowing Race

Ciaran Lewis (34) is one of Ireland’s most accomplished domestic oarsmen. With seven Irish Championships to his name, Ciaran has formed the engine of some of Ireland’s strongest domestic crews since he first started rowing in 1990. Wins at the Henley Royal Regatta rank high on any oarsman’s list of goals; Ciaran achieved this milestone in 2003 having been a finalist on four previous occasions. The crew of Atlantic Challenge, Ciaran Lewis and Gearoid Towey, set out on Wednesday 30th November 2005 to become the first Irish crew to win the Race. In the process Atlantic Challenge was raising funds for the Irish Cancer Society and Merchant's Quay. Mid way through the race, huge seas capsized the boat and forced the rowers to take to their life raft and seek rescue. "As we knew before we left La Gomera, the ocean is an unpredictable beast and is always hungry. We survived a good few nasty storms along the way, but that weekend produced the biggest seas we had ever seen. To feel the full power of the ocean and to come out of it alive is a feeling that can't be described..."

As usual, two important elements of the AGM are the consideration of any new resolutions to improve the club and the election of the Management Committee for the coming year:

If you have any suggestions regarding the running or operation of your club, please post them up here, big or small, so that they can be considered and debated by the club as a whole. Any major resolutions can then be considered and voted for at the AGM, and any consensus views/suggestions can be implemented by the 2007 Committee.

The Piranha Tri Committee and Sub-Committees consist of club members who contribute to running various aspects of the club and essentially keep the show on the road! The main Committee looks after the management of the club and takes decisions affecting the club. It is comprised of the following positions:
Club members will be elected to these positions for 2007 at the AGM. If you would be interested in taking up one of these positions or wish to nominate someone for a position for 2007, please mail either myself or one of the other committee members.

Most of the sections mentioned above have a sub-committee of club members who help out in that area. This is a great way to get involved in the club, even in a very small way, and have a say in the running of your club. The more people that contribute to the club, the stronger and better the club becomes. We are always looking for more people to get on board, so if you would like to help out in any way for 2007, please get in touch with the head of the relevant section, either by email or in person. To peak your interest as to what area might interest you or what you could do, below is a quick synopsis of what each section does in the club. We are encouraging lots of people to get involved for 2007 so don’t be backward in coming forward!

Marketing
The marketing committee works on the promotion of Piranha Tri Club, triathlon in general, training and racing to new and existing members. We take care of club gear and the club website. Get involved and make a difference for the other members of your club. Who do we need?

Volunteering gives you the chance to meet people who (believe me) you would not normally come across. Get in touch with Éimhín for further information.

Events

The Events committee assists with the club races and aims to balance all the training and racing with the social side of triathlon. (Read: Christmas club party, post race gatherings, charity/ fun races, muffin mornings, etc). We also try to host events where newer members can mingle and get involved with the Piranha buzz.

So if you've a sense of FUN, value a PINT or are good at organising people and places, then we want YOU! Fresh ideas always needed.

Get in touch with Emily for further information.

Training

The Training committee strives to provide a successful training programme for all level of athlete. This includes:
You don't need any great experience in triathlon. Looking for 3 people to head up swimming, running, cycling and a warm weather trip organiser. Also need one person to oversee it all. If you go regularly to one of these sessions put your name down for the training committee. The committee works as a team so even though you'll be head of "..." you'll get plenty of help from the others.

Get in touch with Loraine for further information.
