David Tunney emailed in with the following training seminar which I thought might be of interest to members.

Did you ever wonder why that guy you beat in training beats you in a race? Or why you don't perform as well as you feel you can on race day? Did you look back on your year racing and wonder why you fell short of your targets? Racing and training needs direction and planning and to do this you need to understand how to structure your season so you are at your best at your target race not 6 weeks before or after it.

This applies to all distances sprint, Olympic, ½ and full Ironman. Rich Brady is a full time tri coach and he is giving a talk on how to get the most out of your training and racing. He will talk about how to set realistic goals and how to achieve them.

Rob Cummins from Wheelworx Bike and Tri shops will also be covering the equipment end of things and will have a selection of bikes, wheels and triathlon specific kit. Rob will cover issues like what is the difference in bike materials, Carbon Aluminium and Steel, what is bike geometry and how does it affect your performance. Bike set up and fitting. There will also be a technical Q&A.

If you are looking to have your best season yet, then this talk could set you up for it. Rich will cover

  1. The Basics - the under lying physiology of triathlon.
  2. The short of it - Sprint and Standard Distance
  3. The Long of it - 1/2 Ironman and above
  4. Planning the season.
  5. Q+As
This is Rich Brady's spin on triathlon training. He is a full time BTA Level 3 triathlon coach, based in the UK at Kelly College. In 2006 athletes he coached achieved the following: Rich still competes having been Irish Sprint Champion 2002 and runner up in the Long Course champs in Kenmare in 2003 and 2004. Since then he has completed 4 Ironmans, finished 16th at UK70.3in 2006 and still feels his best is yet to come.

Rob Cummins is an age group triathlete with a background in cycling having competed in mountain bike and road racing over the last 7 years. His real passion is the bikes and the technical end of the sport. In only their 2nd year directly involved in triathlon Wheelworx have had 6 national champions in 2006 riding their bikes and hope to grow this significantly in 2007. Rob is involved in running the Naas Wheelworx Tri Club and the Naas Wheelworx Duathlon series early in 2007.
