--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had a bit of a brainwave recently so this year the club will be holding a run league over the winter months.

  • The run coaches are always encouraging us to do some road races over the winter.
  • Prepare for the third element of Triathlon - the run which many forget about over the winter.
  • Improve your running fitness and PB times wheather you are a beginner to tri or with a few tri seasons under your belt.
  • Have some fun outside the main tri calandar.

Read on for full details.....

The format

Each member who signs up below will run in 4 races out of the list below. They can pick any four races but they need to run in our own John Davis 10km run at the end of January. [That is 3 races + john davis = 4 races total] This took a break last year but will hopefully take place in 2008. The only exception is club members who are oranganising the John Davis 10km and volunteers can subsitue a different race for this one, so they arent excluded. You can run in more that four races but only use four for the league.

Members will need to email their races times in. This will be explained later on when it is set up. Some of these races dont have timing chips so its important you wear a stopwatch and time yourself. Honesty required. This will be read against the organisers time they give you which are usually pretty accurate. The exact scoring system will be outlined later as the races vary in distance. - This is going to be kept simple with mininum work for the 1 -2 voluteers who will keep track. Most likely a spreadsheet simliar to Gavs one he did for the swim challeges early on this year. Depending on numbers who sign up, they will be mostly likely be two groups - level one and level two each with prizes for male and female.

The races are all located in dublin offering plently of choice. I will add more races if they come out and are suitable

The latest installment of the winter running league was in Marley park yesterday morning - yes the morning after the christmas party. Weather was much improved on recent weeks. It turned into a very long 10k (was closer to 11k than 10k) so the times were a little slower. Tom Kelly was the only one under 40 minutes with 38 minutes and change. Maria was first home in the ladies with Gary's taking second place in the mens race. Also racing were Tom, myself, Niall Larkin, Niall Power, Liz Lee, Noelle McDonald and Sam Blonde. Loraine was there in a supporting role! Hopefully see as many as possible in UCD for the time trial on Wednesday. Thanks - Matt.

Thanks Matt for that. Saturday also saw a few piranha race in the aware 10k in the Park. - Trish, Cormac.......think there might be more but not sure, post up if so. Cormac in impressive form clocking 37mins - frank
