The 2008 Gatorade Dublin City Triathlon will take place this year on Sunday 24th of August . For any new members, the DCT is one of the biggest triathlons held in Ireland. It is organized and run by your club, Piranha. We need all of you to help out to make the race possible. Thanks to Gatorade for their continued  support of the event. Read on for details including details of the Race Director.

By way of explanation for those new to the club, Piranha organises the DCT, in order to raise funds to run the club for the following year, and to provide a great national race for all triathletes (each club of a reasonable size in the country undertakes to organise at least one race in order to have a workable national series). It is vital that the club raise funds in this way, as it is not sustainable based on members’ subscriptions alone (swimming lane rental, coaches fees etc.) So, by helping out with the race, you are enabling the club to exist and provide training for the following year!

Piranha are delighted to announce that Greg Campbell is the Dublin City Triathlon 2008 Race Director. This year there will also be a Deputy Race Director and Ciaran Lewis will fill this role. Greg and Ciaran have a wealth of triathlon experience both as  competitors and members of the committees, so we’re delighted that they has come on board. Congrats to both of them. I have no doubt they will do a great job. Thanks to those who applied for the role. Please sign up for one of the positions on the DCT Committee as it would be great experience if you wanted to apply for the Race Director role further down the line.

We are currently recruiting members for the DCT Committee 2008. Below is some of the roles we are looking to fill at this time. We have broken a lot of the work down into separate roles to allow maximum participation but also to cut down on the workload for each person. The list below is not fixed and will change if needed. If you have particular skills which you feel might be useful and are not listed please post also. You don’t need to be an expert either. And new members, it’s a great way to get to know the club and all its members. Please help your club out. It’s a great event and to say you were involved in the running of it is a bonus. It might even help you CV if you happen to work in any of the particular areas.

If you want to do one of these roles please email Greg with your name and your 1st and 2nd choice of role.  For general volunteers a separate story will be advertised later on. For now just keep that weekend free.
