Stayin' Alive - Urban, by Dan Empfield of Slowtwitch.com

In a 2006 survey of 18- to 24-year old Americans, barely a third could find Iraq on a map; just over 1 in 10 could find Afghanistan; fewer than half could locate Ohio or New York. While you're on your training ride these very people are driving directly at you, cell phone in one hand, iPod in the other, steering with their knees.

DCT - YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!!

As most of you are now aware preparations for our very own Dublin City Triathlon are at an advanced stage, with the race now only four weeks away. This race is a vital part of the success and continuation of the club for the year ahead and it would be impossible to organize and stage without the cooperation and time of you, the club members. This is also the chance for Piranha members to repay all those other clubs around Ireland whose races we participate in by staging a fantastic race in Dublin.

With this in mind, could you let Clare (Reilly) know your availability for the weekend of the race.  We are looking for marshalls for both the Sunday 29th August for the day of the race itself; and Saturday 28th to help setup. Helpers/Marshalls do not have to be club members so if you have any family or friends, who you think would also like to help out, don’t hesitate to ask them.

The Majority of marshalls are needed on race day, Sunday 29th August, to ensure smooth running and safety during the race. A smaller number are needed Saturday for ‘race set up’ (building transition and setting up registration), so if you can spare both days that would be great! Should any of you, your friends or Family fit this bill and can spare the time please let Clare know.

Please reply to Clare directly (by replying to the email she sent out) with your name, contact details (Mobile number and e-mail contact), and days you are available to help out and those of your friend or family you may have roped in to help.  She will get back to you as soon as we have allocated jobs.

If you did not receive the email please post a comment to this item and Clare will contact you.

Ironman Switzerland Race Report

John Staunton gives a brief report of IM Switzerland:

The journey began back in late 2009 when I decided to enter Ironman Zurich. It had been on my mind for a while in the months beforehand so I finally went online, paid my registration fee and now the race date of 25th July 2010 had a big new significance in my life.

Top of the Mourne Race Report

Judy Mahon reports on the most important race of her season.

 -------------------------

As I am only doing one tri this year and I am avoiding Beast of the East because of the hills, I signed up for Top of the Mourne. This act of madness was undertaken on the advice and indeed encouragement of Clare, (out of the frying pan & into the fire!) I guess the name, Top of the Mourne, should have given it away but the offer of Reilly hospitality could not be ignored and Rasher & Moody can attest to that.
