Chairperson
The Club Chairperson coordinates the running and operation of the club, organises and chairs committee meetings with a view to defining and achieving club goals, and acts as an official club contact and representative.
Emma Jordan – chair@piranhatri.com
In 2020 Emma was persuaded to sign up for a triathlon and a friend recommended joining Piranha to help with the training. She was immediately impressed with the quality and quantity of sessions on offer. Coming from a running and CrossFit background, she quickly saw how much she could improve her swimming and cycling by training with the club – and how much more enjoyable it is to train with club members.
Three years on, Emma is still racing and training, and she chairs the committee with that same beginner-friendly perspective.
Club Secretary
The Secretary maintains the minutes in a club record book, which serves as the official record of the club’s activities.
Anne O’Reilly – clubsecretary@piranhatri.com
Treasurer
The Finance committee ensures that the club’s finances are organised and managed effectively. This includes:
- Overseeing the financial affairs of the Club and planning for ongoing financial viability.
- Managing the Club financial accounts, and reporting on financial status to committee and members.
- Operating the Club’s financial process – bank accounts, invoicing and payments.
Brian Stanley – finance@piranhatri.com
Brian joined Piranha in October 2016 after finishing college. He’d been in the college tri club but had never put the three sports together. The Piranha coaches taught him to swim properly (it took a few years), and his bike and run training improved by varying intensity throughout the week. His first triathlon was Carlow 2017, and he completed an Ironman in 2022.
Marketing
The marketing committee promotes Piranha. Main responsibilities:
- Update the website and manage all club accounts.
- Post stories and source race reports.
- Keep Instagram, Facebook and X up to date.
- Handle queries from prospective members.
- Distribute press releases and handle media queries.
- Help market club events such as New-to-Tri night.
Owen Ingarfield – marketing@piranhatri.com
Growing up in Cape Town, Owen was always in the sea surfing. Cycling and running came later, and as he surfed less his yearn for the sea developed into open water swimming – until he realised it was most fun doing all three at the same time. The tri bug bit in 2017 with a sprint, then an Olympic, then a 70.3 in Durban. Owen relocated to Dublin in 2018, found some salty Piranhas at WestWood, and the rest is history.
Kim Zitzmann – marketing@piranhatri.com
Kim joined the club in 2022 and only did the cycling sessions for two years. She recently learned how to swim with Piranha – couldn’t even swim a length of the pool when she started. Kim signed up for all four National Series races in 2025 and loves the social side of the club.
Membership
The Membership Officer administers membership applications and deals with all queries relating to membership. Main responsibilities:
- Keep the membership list up to date.
- Supply WestWood with regular membership updates.
- Process new membership requests.
- Make sure all members hold TI membership and are insured to train.
Marlon Major – memberships@piranhatri.com
Marlon’s background was weight lifting before joining Piranha. After meeting a senior committee member who happened to be an accomplished triathlete, he was convinced to give endurance sport a chance. He may not have made it to the podium yet – but with the support of the club, he believes he can do it. As Membership Officer, Marlon shares his mistakes, experiences and accomplishments with all of the new members of the club.
Training
The Training committee provides a successful training programme for all levels of athlete:
- Weekly training sessions in swimming, cycling and running.
- Experienced and qualified coaching.
- Seminars and workshops.
- Warm-weather training week abroad.
Dave Furlong – training@piranhatri.com
Eric Clonan – training@piranhatri.com
Eric has been in the club since 2020 and learned to swim with Piranha. His best result so far is 2nd AG at the World Aquabike Championships in 2023. He won the Club Spirit award in 2024 and loves organising events and being part of the triathlon community.
New-to-Tri
A rewarding role coordinating members who are New to Triathlon. To-do list includes:
- Create a calendar of events for the New to Tri programme.
- Organise events: Club Open Night, Transition Training, Coffee Morning, Mini Triathlon at WestWood.
- Encourage new members to sign up for races.
- Choose a race for the New to Triathlon Club Championship.
Niall Gallagher – new.to.triathlon@piranhatri.com
After returning to Dublin full time in summer 2021, Niall wanted to take the opportunity to try something new and challenging – a triathlon ticked those boxes. His favourite part about the club is the welcoming and easy-going nature of all members, both at sessions and socials. There’s always someone willing to help, no matter the question.
Jen Browne – new.to.triathlon@piranhatri.com
Jen started Piranha a few years ago when she first moved to Dublin. She’d completed one triathlon before but had trained independently without any real idea of what she was doing. The Piranhas have been a great source of community, and she’s come on in leaps and bounds – particularly in swimming. She’s entered her first half Ironman this year.
Social Committee
The Social Committee:
- Organises a variety of social events through the year – Christmas party, JD post-run, Club Champs afters, TI Awards night, and any other social activity that comes up.
- Looks after AGM nominations and prizes/trophies; locates and collates presentations.
- Organises any other fun ideas that arise during the year.
Lauren Hughes – events@piranhatri.com
Lauren has been in the club since 2021 and says the social gatherings are one of the reasons she loves Piranha. She’s made great friends through the club and is looking forward to a very social year ahead.
Fiona Nelson – events@piranhatri.com
Fiona joined Piranha in 2019, then again in 2021 after Covid. She’s swum since she was four (Portmarnock Swimming Club through school) and ran with Raheny Shamrock AC until injuries pushed her to triathlon. Cycling was her least favourite when she joined, but consistent Sunday spins turned that around – she loves it now.
