Piranha welcomes complete beginners. You don’t need flashy kit, you don’t need a bike worth more than your car, and you definitely don’t need to be fast. You need a willingness to give it a go.
How to get started
- Join Triathlon Ireland. All members must hold a current TI licence – this gives you the insurance you need to train and race.
- Become a Piranha member. Pick full or half-year membership through Triathlon Ireland and select Piranha as your club.
- Email confirmation of your TI licence to memberships@piranhatri.com.
- Come to a session. Once you’re confirmed you can attend any session – start with what feels most comfortable.
- Introduce yourself. Coaches and the New-to-Tri team will look after you from there.

Inclusivity at Piranha
Piranha is for everyone. Every level, every age, every background. Our coaches put as much care into a first-time swimmer as into a podium-chasing age-grouper, and our members are quick to make new faces feel at home.
If you have questions, concerns, or specific accessibility requirements, please get in touch – we’d rather you ask than not turn up.

EVERYONE is super friendly and helpful, so there’s no need to feel shy or intimidated (we’ve all been there so we know how scary it can be!). We allow anyone who’s interested to try out 3 sessions – which gives you a chance to swim, cycle and run with the club. For more information on this, please email memberships@piranhatri.com
Swim sessions are at Westwood Gym in Clontarf and our Sunday cycle tends to meet there at 8:30am, before heading out for a morning’s spin. Run sessions are held at UCD or the Irish Town track, but you can find all the details of the training schedule on our website, via this link: https://www.piranhatri.com/club-training/training-schedule/
Don’t worry if you don’t feel like you are particularly strong in a specific discipline, we have different levels in all three disciplines so just slot into the swim lane, bike group, and run as you see fit. If you are worried about where you would fit in, give us a shout and we’ll let you know which is the best session to join based on your ability. Just remember to let the swim or run coach and/ or bike lead know you are there and you are new!
You get first preference and a discount on the training clinics run by the club during the year, the training week abroad and club racing gear.
You will also be able and insured to attend club swimming sessions in Westwood Clontarf. These are coached sessions in the 50m pool and cater for all abilities.
We have coached running sessions with a professional coach.
