    Hi all,

I’m doing this long swim (6-7km) at Beginish Island on Saturday (12-Sep) at 4pm:

It looks like a challenge! This is a small island just north of Valentia. A couple of times in the past had to be cancelled due to sea conditions, doing instead an alternative swim from Portmagee towards Knightstown Harbour (~8km). Some info here:

I’m posting in case someone had planned to do it (note there are pre-requisites to be admitted) and would like to contact me.
Also, if you’ve done it in the past, info/tips are welcome!

I’ll probably travel on the day (registration at 2pm), it’s a long 5h drive:

    Hi Pablo,

I did this swim a few years ago and would highly recommend it. Very well organised. You swim around the island, so just try to keep the tightest line to certain points on the island. You reach the most exposed part, about half way around and I think there is a lighthouse on Valentia Island that is good for sighting at that point. I remember finding the last bay extra long, but I was swimming without a wetsuit and was starting to get cold at that stage. Enjoy!

    Hey Pablo!

Best of luck tomorrow – have a good one and take care out there!

The forecast from met.ie was ok for tomorrow (bad for today and Sunday), so I was confident it would go ahead. But it was cancelled this afternoon! They also cancelled the contingency swim (which actually would have been longer, from Portmagee to Knightstown, ~8km). Pity.

Linda, thanks for the tips, hopefully I’ll have the chance to do it some other time.
