Applications are requested for the position of Race Director for the 2011 Gatorade Dublin City Triathlon.

Read on for more details…

The Race

DCT is one of the largest and highest-profile triathlons held in Ireland.  It is part of the Triathlon Ireland National Series, which attracts both national and international athletes, as well as the core body of competitors of all abilities and age-groups.

As you all know, the race is hosted and run by Piranha Triathlon Club. Members and friends of the club organise and run the event on a voluntary basis. The purpose of running the event is to assist the promotion and development of triathlon in Ireland and to raise much needed funds for the club for the following year to enable it provide the highest quality training and triathlon development for its members.

Race Director

Piranha Triathlon Club is seeking a Race Director to manage the organisation of the race, before, during and after the race day itself. Based on previous experience, the role will require part-time hours from June, increasing to full-time from approximately 3-4 weeks leading up to the event, and part-time again for one week after the event. As such, the role will be a paid position, with working hours variable and at the discretion of the candidate. The Race Director will be primarily responsible for the project management of the race, with a view to hosting a safe, competitive and fun event. This will include but is not limited to the following duties, which must be managed by the Race Director with the aid of volunteers:

1)            defining and implementing race requirements, co-ordinating volunteers,

2)            liaising with relevant social and civic organisations and securing relevant permits,

3)            implementing race rules and safety requirements as laid down by the Triathlon Ireland Technical Delegate,

4)            organising and managing public relations and media coverage,

5)            safety and logistics (including securing the services of the Garda, Defence Forces, Civil Defence, Order of Malta, rescue divers and kayakers etc.),

6)            website design,

7)            gaining sponsorship and meeting subsequent requirements,

8)            entry management system,

9)            timing and results system,

10)            registration,

11)            road closure negotiations with Dublin City Council,

12)            after-race barbeque and entertainment,

13)            PA and commentary,

14)            crowd and spectator management,

15)            city-centre post-race party,

16)            prizes and results ceremony,

17)            any other duties as required

The above list may sound extensive but, like last year, there will be a large team of committed and hardworking people on the DCT committee, which will be formed once the director is in place.

Applicants should be experienced competitors in triathlons, and preferably have race organisation experience in some form (an advantage if this was gained in the past organisation of DCT). Applicants must have excellent negotiation, time-management and interpersonal skills, and demonstrable project management experience is desirable.  By necessity, applicants must have available free time from the beginning of June to the end of August.

If you are interested in this role, please email Jason Milne through the site. Closing date is 4th February 2011. All submissions will be acknowledged, reviewed by the Piranha committee, and only the successful candidate will be subsequently notified.
