The best form of training is undoubtedly racing. Racing is one of the best ways to get fit. It also enables you to learn for yourself, the optimal effort levels required in racing a time trial. Another benefit of racing is that you are often inspired to give it everything when people are watching. If you are training on your own, who is going to know if you knock off early or give up after 10 minutes? Also racing gives you the incentive to try and improve times; it is important to maintain a constant enthusiasm for training, this is one of the most important elements and have Fun J!

Equipment:

Tires: For Time Trial and competition you want your tires at the maximum recommended pressure. This lowers the rolling resistance. Check if any damage, cuts before Time trial or event.

Chain: You want your chain cleaned and lubricated. An old rusty chain can add quite a bit of work to your ride. You should, of course, also check that your brakes are working well and not rubbing and that the derailleurs are adjusted to shift smoothly.

Toe clips or clipless pedals: Toe clips are inexpensive and quite useful. They help keep your foot firmly attached to the pedals so that the energy from your leg is most efficiently transferred to the pedals. They allow you to pedal circles. Clipless pedals with accompanying bike shoes and cleats that lock into the pedals are even more efficient.

Bike maintains: Check all gears, cables, breaks. Handle bar must be straight!

Shoes: Every shoe has to have insole, straps closure system in working order.

Aero bars and wheels:  Aero bars increase the efficiency of your position substantially, lowering air resistance and times. Aero wheels decrease the air resistance of the bike as well.

Helmet: Compulsory.

Looking forward to see you!
