Gatorade Dublin City Triathlon

Hi All,

A quick update on a few DCT items this week.

Entries are filling up well and I expect entries for the Olympic race to fill in the next day or certainly over the weekend. There are a few more entries on the sprint side but I expect sometime next week this will also fill up.

As you'll have soon on another post, we are hosting a practice swim next Friday August 6th and we have had a good response to this. Check out the forum story for details - I'll bump it up so you can check it out.

We're continuing to give away plenty of spot prizes on Facebook - yesterday we had two vouchers for SwimForTri weekend technique sessions which are happening in October/November. If you aren't already following us on Facebook search for DublinCityTri and you'll find the page there.

Finally, many people are enquiring regarding helping out. Preparations in advance are in hand at this stage. The time and place where most help is needed is on Saturday August 28th and race day itself down at the boat clubs. I cannot stress enough how important it is to the club for everyone to make themselves available for as long as possible on both days. It really will be all hands on deck. Clare Reilly will be in touch in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for this.

If anyone has any questions or queries do not hesitate to drop me a line.

Cheers,
Matt.

Top of the Mourne Race Report

Judy Mahon reports on the most important race of her season.

 -------------------------

As I am only doing one tri this year and I am avoiding Beast of the East because of the hills, I signed up for Top of the Mourne. This act of madness was undertaken on the advice and indeed encouragement of Clare, (out of the frying pan & into the fire!) I guess the name, Top of the Mourne, should have given it away but the offer of Reilly hospitality could not be ignored and Rasher & Moody can attest to that.

TriAthy Olympic race Report

Jane Ryan tells the tale of her first TriAthy Olympic distance race ...

How do they do it?  For the 3rd year in a row it was blistering sunshine down in Athy for the annual triathlon…This year the Olympic race was to be held on a different day to the Sprint and in a fit of enthusiasm and talk of getting in an early Olympic I had put my name down for the Saturday race.  I figured since I had already done one of the worst Olympic races on the calendar (Lough Ine), albeit last year, that I would be OK.

5 Tips for a Strong Swim in Your Next Tri

By Kevin Koskella of www.TriSwimCoach.com

The question is: will you finish your next triathlon swim strong, or will you run out of steam before you even start the majority of your race?

Balancing your energy levels throughout the triathlon swim can be a challenge, especially as no matter how much you train; there are always several factors that are out of your control: wind and wave conditions, bumping into fellow competitors, or a mishap with a buoy. But by focusing on those factors that you can control or influence during your race, you can increase the likelihood substantially that you will have a strong swim finish. The most ideal situation would be to learn how to read and pace your personal energy. Awareness of your body and how you are expending energy throughout the race is important.

TRI-BURGH

TRI-BURGH - the west's newest olympic distance race was held on Saturday in Louisburgh Co. Mayo while the masses were racing in Athy.

The last report I did about WWT was roundly critised for a lack of banter so this report was sent to the (self appointed) king of Banter Steven Moody (SM) for some tips on how to include some banter. Read on for the unedited version.
